Actigraphy based sleep characteristics and aortic stiffness: The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA)
Aims : To examine the association based on objective estimates of sleep duration and quality and aortic stiffness while accounting for the potential confounding effect of sleep disordered breathing (SDB).
No significant effect modifications were found in sleep duration by age, gender, race, sleep efficiency, and wake after sleep onset (WASO).
In adjusted analyses, participants with short duration had lower aPWV (0.94 m/s (10.6%)) compared with participants with normal sleep duration.
A significant linear relationship was found between sleepy duration and aPWV, but not with AAD or DAD.
No statistically significant associations were found between objectively measured sleep quality measures and aortic stiffness.
