3D aortic morphology and stiffness in MRI using semi-automated cylindrical active surface provides optimized description of the vascular effects of aging and hypertension

3D aortic morphology and stiffness in MRI using semi-automated cylindrical active surface provides optimized description of the vascular effects of aging and hypertension

Aims : This study proposes a semi-automated tool for regional 3D segmentation of the aorta from SSFP MRI data.
The ARTFUN software was used to estimate the aortic arch length, to automatically measure the AAo and DAo diameters and the flow wave transit time between AAo and DAo aortic used for PWV calculation.
Measurements from the 3D semi-automated tool were reproducible and comparable to those from well validate ARTFUN software.
The proposed method provided accurate geometrical and functional aortic parameters in normotensive and hypertensive individuals with high reproducibility.
Significant correlations were also found between aging and cf-PWV.
